WHY would this be the friggin HEADLINE on the education section of CNN? Someone please explain this to me?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/EDUCATION/12/10/sex.bracelet.ap/index.html

Ummm ... this is the first time I EVER heard them called that. They were always either gummi or jelly bracelets and were simply that, bracelets.

Then again, in my region the big thing was sextabs ( pop can tabs that you pulled off with the ring intact - or in some case with the whole mechanism )

Apparently they're the new sextabs. Break a bracelet to get whatever cooresponds to that colour (black = fuck, I get the impression other colours are blowjobs, kisses, etc.), or some such rubbish. Someone was ranting on about it on craftygoths, I think. I'd never heard of it before then. Wear lots of black jellies now and be seen a slut.

Yeah but the story claims that is what they were called back in the 80s. News to me, and I wore a shitload of them in the 80s (until my wrists became too thick to wear them)

Wonder if the gummi barbwire bracelets indicate BDSM?

In Australia they were that in the 90s maybe, but I don't think ever there 80s from what one person replying was saying (laughing at us for being "so behind"- don't even get me started). I know I've heard nothing about it till now, but it could have been some niche trend somewhere in middle America that no one heard about at the time, because, well, we didn't care. It now seems to be a midwest thing from what I've heard, which explains why I'd missed it (aside from wrong age group). Also, CNN may have pulled the 80s thing out of their collective ass- the bracelets were around then, so some reported decided the game must have been, regardless of the fact we JUST WORE THE BRACELETS.

I'll still wear mine anyway. And any fucker who tries to break one will get a broken jaw.

I've never heard of this, and such trends tend to travel really fast around the Belmont/Clark area where the Ally is. I think the news is just creating news rather than reporting it, but this is usually the case. I mean when they caught Saddam, all they could talk about was his dumb beard, not all the people he tortured and killed

I know. No kidding, right? I'm a wicked whore then because I wear as many black ones as I can squeeze on to my arms - both of them.

I've been doing that on and off since I was 13 when I saw Madonna wearing loads of black ones in (I think) her "Lucky Star" video.

i've heard it be mentioned a few times over the past few months. it seems that it is becoming a problem in the schools with 10-14yrs old kids breaking bracelets and demanding sex or sexual activity. some school boards are banning the bracelets to avoid this happening.

the problem isn't the bracelets themselves. if they take them away, the kids will find something else (like the pop tabs of our youth). many kids these days think that sex is no big deal, that a blow jobx is less nonchalant than a good night kiss, and the girls think it's free to give to whoever they want, but the boys typically aren't giving back.

i think we have taught our women that it's okay to have sex and that sex is no big deal, but it was really the little girls that listened instead.

We had sextabs too, and no one I know of ever redeemed the damned things.
Don't forget that green M&Ms make you horny.
