An Iraqi actor who starred in "United 93" is denied entry when trying to fly to the United States for the premiere of the film.

No, I'm not making a statement here. I'm just pointing out one of the many interesting little incidents that happen in Unamerica.

I don't know how you feel about all the movies coming out about "9/11" lately. I've heard from some who are disgusted. I've heard from others who are waving their "Patriot since 9/12/01" flags high in praise of the films.

Are the people making these movies trying to actually send a message out? Or are they simply maggots feasting on the corpses of those who died on that day and the thousands upon thousands who've died in countries that had nothing to do with the attack? We each have to make our own minds up on that.

*counting down the minutes before my resident counterpoint chimes in and mentions a certain turkish movie.*

The nascent point is that all the nanny state protections didn't protect us on 9/11. It was the passengers of flight 93.

Personally, I want to walk up to the security area, step into a side door, present my ID and CCW permit, get handed 2 boxes of Frangible 9mm, dump my carry loads in a bin that gets handed off to the flight crew and load up my 2-3 magazines with the frangibles. Between the air marshalls, the pilots who should ALL have M1911s or .357 revolvers, and citizens, we'd have this terrorism threat dealt with nicely. And assholes that misbehave on the flights would be told to do exactly what the nice stewardess says.

But, no. The Democrats would scream BLOODY MURDER because someone that's not a be-knighted government official is armed. Remember, who exactly bitched about pilots not having the need to have firearms onboard the aircraft they command?

You know I love you. ;-)

I'm with you on that issue.

Funny how that works. What do you want to bet the first thing that'll happen after the Dems get control of congress will be a re-introduction of the Assaultweapons ban? Buy that AR or STG-1 or FAL or what ever now. Oh, and magazines and lots of ammo.

I don't see the point of the movies; it's not like people don't remember what happened... it was 4.5 years ago, not ten or twenty. The rush to get these real life things turned into movies is ridiculous -- I'd even say all the facts aren't in concerning what happened, so the movies don't really shed any light on anything or make a historical event more clear, or serve a purpose. [Say what you like about the conspiracy theories in, for example, JFK, but it was looking back at an event with a new perspective.

I'm not all gung-ho AMERICA, nor am I all sentimental and weepy about 9/11. But I *was* there, saw all I needed to see from the top of my building, went through the emotional shit, and feel like I lost the city I grew up in and considered home to all the "anti terrorism" measures that do nothing but that away comforts and freedoms to normal people. So it's safe to say I won't be seeing any movies, or caring about them. This is probably the most I will write on the subject, ever.

I don't know. Given how long it takes a US citizen to get a passport - I've no doubt that when the wheels grind slowly for us, a visa for an Iraqi national, regardless of where he currently resides, goes even slower.

Besides, the "I was forced to" excuse has been used before. Seems to be a lot of kids that were forced to be part of the Hitler Youth programme (at age 5) are still marked as former German Nazis and their travel is expressly limited around the world as well. That was how many decades ago? And these were people who were five or six and Hitler's Germany collapsed when they were seven or eight. But they are banned.

So forced to serve in the Iraqi army seems to be a lame excuse based on historical precedence.

Are the people making these movies trying to actually send a message out? Or are they simply maggots feasting on the corpses of those who died on that day and the thousands upon thousands who've died in countries that had nothing to do with the attack?

Man... hard question. Here's my thought. If these were attempts to outline a historical event, combined with perspectives from around the world, with an educational message... then they wouldn't be $9 a ticket drama films, would they?

"Patriot since 9/12/01"

The Sea Cadet bumper sticker I liked most said "Patriotic before it was cool."
