The LIST of things to bring to the airport if you wish the nice people with the guns and badges to entertain you for hours/days/weeks.

I'm thinking about contacting the local media and then actually carrying some of this stuff with me when I check in for my flight tomorrow afternoon. Think that the authorities detaining a veteran with a good service record returning to New York state in order to continue his quest for a teaching degree after spending the holidays with his family would make a good story?

Lovely. I mean, I'm used to flying in goth boots - but usually to Germany, where the scene is huge and airport security are quite used to dealing with goths/grufties on a regualr basis.

The worst I get there is the request (each and every time) to take my boots off and put them through the x-ray machine. No attitude, a certain degree of understanding, and no problems (as long as I remember to wear boots that can be removed quickly and don't take an hour to put back on... :)

Eh, and try wearing all black, New Rocks, flying out of the country...and having your feet swell to enormous sizes due to early pregnancy. Yep. Not fun. Made me crankier than hell.

on family vacation a year ago I made it through security ok and then after "passing" a security woman stopped me. she made a huge deal over my belt with giant rings all over it. Yet it was ok for me to go through with my boots on and not take THOSE off, i had to take my freaking belt off after going through the security check (?).

I may end up calling Jesse before I go thrugh security and telling him if I don't make it into work it's because our friendly benevolent Gestapo has imprisoned me for not being a bleeting sheep.
