A question for those who still hold onto the belief that the neocons haven't been fucking the country relentlessly in every orifice possible ( and cutting open some new ones when the existing ones get too loose ):

When was the last time that the Canadian Dollar was equal to the US Dollar? (As it is now.)
When was the last time the Canadian Dollar was worth MORE than the US dollar? (As it was yesterday)

Greenspan was, as I recall, the fellow who cheerfully backed Bush's original tax cuts. He's also happily cheered on everything the Bush junta has done since. People listen to him, and he's another asswad who held his tongue when he might've made a difference and is only speaking out now that he's safely retired.

hilariously, over on deathboy's lj, some Americans are saying "but we want our currency to be low", and do not at all seem to understand the difference between it being low in comparison to countries who might buy stuff from the states, and it being low in comparison to countries that the US buys raw materials from. i didn't think that was all that complicated!

I will point out that a weak dollar as compared to other nations currency is GOOD for US exports as our goods sell for less to them and they thus have a better deal. Sucks to be a US tourist but frankly we need to reverse the trend of US industry going elsewhere.

That would be true in regards to a country we SELL more than we buy from.

Remember, we BUY a hell of a lot of raw materials from the great white north.

Bush is going to use this as an excuse to legalize stripmining Alaska or something.

I believe the last time the currencies were at par was sometime in the mid-1970s, another time not so great for us economically (gas rationing, all that stuff).

When I was still peddling cards over the internet, the strong euro and the steadily weakening dollar was great for me. 60-70% of our sales by number and probably 80% by volume were overseas, and many buyers cited the strong euro and the absence of VAT as being a compelling reason to buy cards online from us.
