" It looks dated. "

Oh yeah, that was a "Must ... control ... the ... Fist of Destruction." moment.

Some third-rate Eberts need to pull their thumbs out of their asses so they can start breathing again. The methane buildup is destroying their meager braincells.

Some of the ever-so-qualified armchair movie reviewers have been naysaying the new Indiana Jones movie simply because Spielberg decided to go old school and didn't use CGI for everything (including scenery ala greenscreening) like his bosom buddy, Lucas.

These reviewers have an appointment with myself and Excalibolg. We'd like to have a discussion with them about the merits of going old school when making an epic "pulp adventure" movie.

Those fuckwits want to see what a pulp action movie looks like when it's CGI'd like they want?

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

They very fact that Lucas DIDN'T like that Spielberg decided for traditional effects instead of making it a CGI shlock fest like the last three Star Snore movies is a good sign.

This ALMOST makes up for his pulling a GL and "reimagining" the feds in E.T. as wielding automatic walkie-talkies.

I've not seen it yet. My rage is directed at the halfwits who are lambasting it because they claim Spielberg should've used CGI.

This isn't Iron Man. This isn't Speed Racer. This is Indiana Fucking Jones!

What are you talking about? Indiana Jones is KNOWN for its high-tech digital effects. Have you forgotten the face-melting scene in Lost Ark? :)

The use of state-of-the-art high-tech to help tell a story is one thing. Relying on the special effects to sell the movie is another. And sadly, the overuse of CGI has steered movies towards the latter to the point where there's little chance of return.

Episodes 1-3 of Star Bores should be all the evidence I need to prove my case.

Look down deep in your heart and ask yourself truthfully. If that cock-knocker Lucas had shat out the "first" three episodes before Episode 4, would there have even BEEN such a faithful following? The storylines sucked. The acting by most of the actual organic cast members was wooden at best.

Lucas depended on the oooooooo factor of the CGI and the zealous nature of his fanbase to sell them.

The...A problem with Lucas is that he doesn't know when to back off and let other people direct and write dialogue.

IMHO, The Empire Strikes Back was the best movie of the lot. It didn't hurt that Leigh Brackett wrote the screenplay.

So, Jak, how do you feel about the upcoming re-imagining of The Day The Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves. Sadly, no, he's not playing Gort.

How do I feel about it? At first blush I am appalled by it. But when you stop and think about it; what better role for Keannu?

Klaatu was a very restrained emotionless character compared to the rest of the cast. It's the perfect role for an actor like Reeves who has the acting range of a gerbil suffering from hydrocephalus.
