It wasn't a heart attack. But they still kept me overnight because the doc wanted to do a few tests this morning before he would release me.

chest pain, shooting pain up the left side of the neck, dizzyness and numb lips.

Yeah it kinda scared me a bit. And it looks like I have to readjust my BP meds again. Friggin system keeps getting immune to them or something. I'm not saying what it was at it's highest last night when they had me in the ambulance. Let's just say there was a 2 in the front of the top set.

Cheese and rice, I'm sorry to hear about this.

...and I'm also worried that if I don't get a handle on my own BP I may be following suit. :(

Good fucking god, that's crazy. Glad you didn't explode from blood pressure that high. (You know, it would have been all messy and such)

Whoa, dude-- don't be going anywhere, we haven't met yet.

No idea if it would be applicable for you, but I know a guy who swears by donating blood every eight weeks as an balm to his high blood pressure. He is an intelligent, well-educated, and under ongoing medical care; he's just convinced the regular donation has a better effect than any of the meds ever have.

Makes sense to me... There's less blood in his system to get pressurized.

Doesn't do much for the underlying cause though, which is probably poor arterial health.

The main problem is ... they can't figure out WHY my blood pressure is so friggin off the scale.

No family history of heart or vascular problems.

My cholesterol is actually quite decent and the "good" cholesterol is high.

etc etc etc

Been a problem we've been trying to nail down for years. It's a friggin crapshoot trying to get it under control.

I haven't known you that long so I'm not sure if these are applicable, but if you've ever been a smoker or overweight you've probably done some damage to your arteries, and that can cause high blood pressure. Some drugs can do it too (prescription, over the counter, or otherwise.) I'd ask if you've tried taking aspirin if you weren't on BP meds already.

I've noticed mine start to creep up a little over the past few years, and I've had some palpitations, which is one of the reasons I'm trying to lose weight now.

The amount of times I've smoked in my life causes people to say "What the fuck happened ?!?!?!" on the rare times I'm seen with a lit cancerstick between my lips.

I'm definately overweight. Hell, according to BMI I'd be "morbidly obese". I range between 275-300. I can't seem to get below the 270 mark.

Actually, I'm on an aspirin regimen along with my other dailies ... Felodipine and Lisinopril. I'm liking the Felodipine because it's giving me a bit of a "Smiling Bob" type side-effect. As opposed to the limp noodle that Tiazac was given me. Hey, it's my pain. I can give you TMI if I damn well please.

Heh, I thought Enzyte was supposed to make it bigger, not necessarily more active. But hell, a boner effect would make sense, considering that the goal of the drug should be improved blood flow.

And yeah, in that case it's more than likely the extra weight, unless you're like 7 feet tall. Our line of work doesn't normally do good things for the waistline. I'm losing some myself, but that's from not eating all the crap I used to eat and getting a little exercise. (I'm 6'0" and 240, down from 257 last year.)

I walk an average of 6-7 miles a night during my work shift alone ( according to my pedometer ).

I'm 6'2" most assume I'm around 240 when they guess. Built like a brick, I am.

You probably have that "legs like steel bands" thing going on like I do, in that case. My last job at the grocery store kept me on my feet walking and moving things for 8+ hours a day too, but that just seemed to help me maintain the weight, not lose any.

I do a lot less walking now, but the other stuff I'm doing seems to be helping (I hit the pool at my hotel jobsite once a week, ride my bike whenever I can, and do a lot of walking and stair-climbing at the hotel two nights a week.)

How's your diet? (I assume you've been cutting down on salt.)

Legs like steel bands, Abs like steel bands as well ... sheltered under a large dose of pudge. But still solid. SOlid enough that people hurt themselves when they punch me in the guts. (- the two things jackasses always seem to hit me ... the gut or the jaw. Both fairly ineffectual on someone like me. -)

The only way I could cut my salt down would be to knock out the soda I drink. Which I don't do much of to begin with.

Dude, you're far from morbidly obese. I wouldn't even call you overweight, honestly. You're built like a goddamn tank, that's not fat!

As someone who had an eating disorder for years, that BMI crap pisses the ever living shit out of me. Stupid fucking arbitrary number to measure every single person on earth...

Ahem. Sorry 'bout that.
Date: 2006-12-28 08:29 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] razorjak.livejournal.com

Oh I know I'm not. I was just referencing what the BMI index classifies me as.

Yes, I am built like a tank. I can take a hit and laugh my ass off. But I do have a hefty layer of fat sheathing my mucles.

But the BMI? Yeah, I think it's crap as well.
