Remember this comes from someone who's not a christian. It also comes from someone who thinks most of humanity is a waste of protein strands.

The next person I see or hear who states they've lost respect for a celebrity due to discovering they're a christian is going to wake up and find me sitting next to their bed; smiling and lubing up a scalemail clad badger ni order to forcefully insert it up the fucktard rectally.

I'm not talking about authors, cartoonists, actors who "find Jesus" and become preachy. I'm speaking of people who are not preachy at all. To the point of really not being able to know WHAT religion, if any, the individual may be a member.

Some twat over on one of the Good Eats communities made a long drawn out post about how shocked and dissapointed that Alton Brown appeared on the cover of Guideposts and had an interview article within. The idiot went on about how they didn't know if they could ever respect him again.

I post this here because I don't want to continue the flamewar which has blown up over there due to the post.

FUCK YOU, you lacking-of-balls asstard! I know you're just 18 and have no fucking clue about ANYTHING in life. BUT FOR FUCK'S SAKE! Get a whiff of the clue as it whistles past over your head!

How DARE you look down on someone simply because they "FAILED" you and are part of a religion you don't subscribe to? He doesn't preach his religion on the show. He doesn't say that if you believe in evolution that you're going to burn in hell. He simoply stated that his faith has helped him in his work and in his life. ESPECIALLY with his recent motorcycle accident.

FUCK YOU you PCeelie piec of shit! DO the world a favour and jump your oversensitive ass off a dam or a tall bridge! Make the world a better place. Kill yourself.

...

But seriously, ANYONE who looks down on another person simply because of their religion or faith ... when that person hasn't tried to shove it down your throat ... is just as bad as Jack Chick and Fuckhead Phelps. Just not as entertaining.

I've kept quiet about comments like that from people I consider friends (or at least people whose company I can tolerate without wanting to put them through a wall or three). No more.

Putting down the xtians is just as bad as them putting down the jews, muslims, pagans, pastafarians etc etc etc. Get off your high horse. Even if that high horse happens to be your Sacred Stag or something else along those lines.

Get the fuck over yourself and look at people as they are. Not looking down on them for something so trivial as the faith which gets them out of bed in the morning.

In short, SHUT THE FUCK UP! NEXT!

Wait, this rant doesn't count if they are a scientologist right?

Amen to that. Bashing religion is no more palateable to me than racism or sexism. Would anyone dare say OMGZ! he was BLACK! I had NO IDEA and now I have lost ALL respect for him!!

I'm a lot more religious than my behaviour might suggest to the clueless outsider. I keep it to myself. But if I chose to speak about it, I wonder how many of my friends would turn their backs on me?

WTF? I had no idea Alton Brown was religious at all - he keeps it out of his show, and doesn't run around screeching at people about it. How can people look down on someone for that?

It's amazing how few people can just say "hey, you do your thing, I'll do my thing, we'll all do it peacefully and it will be cool." So long as someone isn't trying to convert my heathen ways or take away my rights based upon their religious beliefs, they're good by me. It's not even something that should come up in polite conversation, to begin with.

Just as there is blind faith, there are the Blind Faithless, who drop blame on every aspect of society that is wrong in their tidy little opinions on the big bad religious monster.
Cruelty involved in the manufacture of veal? - Must be the christians.
Gas prices too high? - It's all those christians buying SUV's to show their support of the christians in the government.
It's the carpet-bomb demonizing that bugs me. Hating a group of people without logical pretext only proves that you, yourself are a person to be hated. Use your brain, look at the facts, and then hate them.

Bravo!

In fact, I hope there are a bunch of babygoths out there who read this and learn.

Hey, I don't mind Jack Chick's work...it's funny stuff (w/ a grain of salt), and funnier parodied. :)

Religion is a private thing as long as people stay private about it I don't care.

People tend to forget that there is a difference between the religious and the "religious"-right. Not that long ago I ran across a R.C. preist who I thought I recognized from somewhere. After a bit of talking we figured out that it was from the anti-war protests that the NYCLU set up.

(Editors note: R.C. =/= Remote Control... although that would be cool, I'd like a remote control preist. One that had jesus wafer chucking action)

That's just fucking insane . . . what, the guy is a celebrity and therefore he is NOT ALLOWED TO ESPOUSE ANY BELIEF SYSTEM OTHER THAN YOURS OMFG SOMEBODY CALL THE WAHHHHHMBULANCE!!

(I left out a few eleventy-ones, but I'm lazy today)

I prefer to keep my entertainment and my (or other people's) religion separate, so I'd be dubious were he to start talking about religion on his *show* (simply because I'm not interested in hearing preaching of any kind), but WTF? Is the guy not allowed to have ANY personal beliefs or a life outside the Food network??!? X_x

The above doesn't apply if I find out that a celebrity has a particularly *repellent* belief (espousing apartheid or gay-bashing or whatever), but that's not religion, that's just plain idiocy. I definitely draw a distinction between people who believe in $Deity and people who take that belief as a license to be nasty little fuckheads . . . I respect the former as they earn it on an individual basis, and the latter not at all.

Good rant editorial!

nice rant... that kind of hypocricy is in many respects more dangerous than the kind blind conservatism produces...

on the home front here.. it's really 'on the nose' to admit you are or have ever had any kind of association with christianity.. in the indie music scene here it's career suicide if you mention or it's discovered and made public that your band may have had any kind of 'christian' association.. it will effectively kill your chances of getting airplay and major industry support..

I never thought P.C could ever generate that kind of evil..
