In case any of you have been trying to call me lately ...

FUCK SPRINT! ... slice open their belly and fuck the steaming wound!

I can't believe that that twat had the gall to tell me I needed to pay an extra month of service to get my phone turned back on because THEY haven't got off their ass to set up the autopay (AGAIN!)

I set the blasted thing up back in October! They shut my phone down in December claiming that the autopay hadn't been set up yet. Grumbling the whole time I set the process up again and made a payment over the phone. They said it (the autopay) would go through on the next billing cycle.

So I go to use my phone this morning and it directs me to the thrice-damned sprint robot system indicating my service has been shut off AGAIN.

Finally get a human ( if you want to call her that ) who tells me I have to pay an aextra month service upfront because I am now a "high risk" due to my service being cut off twice in thirty days!!!

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY SMOKING OVER THERE!?!?!??! It was cut off because some jackoff didn't do his job and type in my information in the first place!!!

FUCK THEM. Told her that I was going to use the money I would WASTE on SPRINT's (lack-of) service and go with another company ...

Soooo ... anyone have any suggestions of cell phone service that either won't fuck me up the ass or at least has a pencil dick and uses astroglide?

Well, avoid Cingular, because they're some of the dumbest people I have ever dealt with in my life, and their "service" is more expensive than most. I just switched to T-Mobile a couple of weeks ago, and have been happy so far. Though I haven't dealt with their billing yet, so I'll have to see...

AT&T's been reasonably good to us, and seems to have pretty good coverage nationwide (though northern MI is roaming territory unless you're on a nationwide plan, which is pricey).

We're happy with Cricket. We get all the perks of Sprint plus 500 free minutes of long distance and unlimited local calling for about $40 a month.

And they even send a nifty text message about a week before your bill is due reminding you of it.

I use Virgin Mobile simply because I don't have to deal with any of the above BS. You prepay, no contracts, no billing...no bullshit really. They have excellent phones and work anywhere there is a Sprint PCS network.

I have had no problems at all with my phone and the customer support is excellent when and if you have any problems.

I highly recommend looking into it.

I like this. I shall use it sometime. Hopefully when talking to The Penguin, after paraphrasing it slightly...

Meanwhile, to the discussion at hand:
Sprint screwed me over so badly in so many ways. They charged me for long distance a few years ago, because they 'changed' me over to their service without my permission. I don't even use long distance, so they quickly said they had made a mistake, and charged my cell phone bill. I didn't catch it.

In the interim, I got SO fed up with their "Your call is important to us, please hold" bullshit that I tried to end the relationship and tell them that I didn't want the cell phone service anymore.

They put me on hold. I was standing on a bridge by the Erie Canal at the time.

The phone is now in the Erie Canal.

Nearly five years later, I got a creditor on my ass. Says I owe them nearly $200 for long distance charges. I challenged it, and proved I never authorized the change over, and proved that I never made ANY long distance charges anyway. They said 'whoopsie, it was a cell phone charge'. I said bullshit, I cancelled the account!!

They are now saying that, although I was on and off hold that day and talking to at least 4 different representatives who kept putting me on hold to talk to someone else, and although all four of them KNEW without a SHADOW OF A DOUBT that I hated them and their service and was cancelling, they said I did not talk to the RIGHT person. Said I broke the connection before the right person could cancel my account. Even though all four others knew, and I had been on hold at that point more than 50 minutes. So they continued to charge me while my phone slept with the fishes.

They can kiss my ass. I think they make shit up as it occurs to them.

AT&T Wireless is ok, if painfully inept if you ever need ot actually work out details with them. The 800#s average 20-30 minutes hold time and the stores cannot do much for you once you have a phone.

Cingular screwed me hard this year but had worked out ok for a couple of years prior to that. Of course Cingular is now offering to buy AT&T Wireless - so that will invoke high end fisco alerts.

Nextel is ok if you have coverage and stay in North America.

T-Mobile is actually pretty decent, albeit they have a history of billing problems.

AllTel, by all accounts, is pretty bad.

You cannot get Three in North America. Be glad. You don't need that kind of pain.

Verizon is supposed to be pretty good. I hesitate because despite their massive advertising I hear mixed stories from many consumers and don't know many business travelers that use them.

Hope that helps.
