My dad was born this date in 1939. He was the age I am now when he and mom adopted me. That really puts a lot of things into perspective.

In his life so far he's raised three children to adulthood ( two very succesful ... and then me ) and was a father figure to a lot of our friends. He was the life of the party at any sleepover or movie night we had growing up and was always willing to pull out the guitar and sing goofy-ass songs to get a laugh.

When we'd all be playing D&D, he'd ask if he could join in. When I LARPed back in the mid 90s and two or three girls would be getting into costume at my house before we drove to the site he'd ask if there was a place for him. There was no dumb ass fad or hobby I had that he didn't support as long as I enjoyed what I was doing and it didn't hurt anybody.

He's also been working as a butcher since the time he was 14 and, no matter what he says, he probably won't stop till they actually force him to retire.

Really have nothing to say here but to say how much I love him and glad he's still around.

That he does. Most definately :-)

A lil more background ... Our house was the movie night house ( since we owned the local video store ) My dad would pull stunts like running down into the rec room wrapped in a brown blanket and barking while we were watching cujo ... letting my brothers parakeet or cockatiel out while we were watching ANY movie dealign with bats ... and ... my fave ...

We were watching Nightmare on Elm Street. My parents' room is right above the rec room's sliding glass door. Dad strung up one of my sister's beautician model heads and lowered it to the window.

Everyone saw it but the kid sitting RIGHT by the window. Dad swung it back and let it slam against the glass. The kid shrieked like a banshee and flew up and over the recliner. It was priceless.
