It's been far too long since I went to the movies. Mainly because the closest cinema to me is located over 35 miles away, in the next county.

The last film I saw in a theater was V for Vendetta on opening weekend. Before that was The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. So yeah, I was overdue for my silver screen fix.

My errands in Traverse City were finished just in time for me to hit the GKC and catch a movie before heading home. My choices were See No Evil or An American Haunting.

Hmmm, See No Evil ... a "Kane" vehicle that uses every stereotype it possibly can in the movie. Yeah, no thanks. I'll wait until it's in the 2 for a dollar section so I don't feel cheated while I laugh my arse off. Sooo, off to An American Haunting I went.

Previews,

The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift ... no Vin Diesel, no Paul Walker.

See no Evil ... yeah, the previews were enough for me

The Omen ... The cast looks good. But do we REALLY need another horror movie remake? The guy they are using for Robert Thorn looks so much like Sam Niell that I was convinced it WAS him. But it seems it's some guy named Liev Schreiber. I think it'd have been a hoot if they DID get Sam to play Robert. It would bring the whole thing full circle. As they brought Harvey Stephens in for a bit role. Guess Sam and Jonathon Scott-Taylor weren't available.

The Reaping ... Another "Demon Child prophecised yada yada yada" Though I think this one may be good.
"I know what you're here for. You're here to kill my child."
"No, I'm not."
"*SOB* WHY NOT!"

Pulse ... the latest in the American Remakes of Japanese Horror flicks. This one looks interesting though

... And now onto the show ...

An American Haunting is supposed to be based off the Bell Witch legends. If you know anything about the stories of the Bell Witch, you'll have to disengage that part fo your brain for this movie.

This is not a movie for those who like blood and gore in their horror. It's not a movie for those who must have an action scene every three minutes to keep their ADHD riddled self from fidgeting out of the seat and out the door.

I liked it. I especially liked the ending. I'll save the spoilers for another time.

... Of course, it was after 11pm when I started the 70 mile ride home. But that's another story.

Let me give a visual for those who've not seen pictures of the area in which I live.

Woods woods and more woods ...

Miles and miles of roads where the trees on either side of the road interlace overhead like a botanical awning.

This is very pretty during the day. Not so much at night. Especially when one has just finished watching a "scary" movie.

So I'm thinking of the movie and watching out for the deer that are a common hazard. I saw five of them over the course of the ride home. But the last one was the most daunting.

I didn't hear the thud ahead of me but I saw the headlights go askew on the vehicle about 100 yards in front of me. The driver didn't stop. So I figured it must have been a "clean hit".

Not so. The beast was still twitching as I rolled up. Cursing the driver, I got out to check on it. She was a doe, A very pregnant doe. The vehicle hitting her had ruptured her enough that the fetus was exposed. By the time I walked back to my car and returned with something to put her down completely, she had passed.

I've a feeling that scene will be in my thoughts for quite some time to come.
