I just spent the better part of 15 minutes talking on the phone with a kid(*) who just preliminarily signed up to join the army. His friend basically forced him to call me to get my opinion on the whole matter.

Gods that was awkward. I'm torn when it comes to recommending military service to people.

I truly believe a stint in the military can be a rewarding experience and a way to give something back to the country. However I don't agree with what the current administration is doing with the troops, AT ALL.

I served under both Bush Sr and Clinton. Both had their faults. But neither were as incompetant as the smirking chimp sending men and women to die for all the wrong reasons.

In the end I had him think about the true reasons he's joining. I also told him something I am sure neither his recruiter nor the "friend" who buddy-fucked him(**) into signing up bothered to inform him. Until he swears that final oath, he can change his mind.

He might be coming over to have a face to face talk with me tomorrow. Ooof.

When did I become the "Wise Old Sage"?

(*) mid 20's ... sweetblackjesus when did mid 20's become "a kid" to me?

(**) Can anyone confirm this? Are they now giving cash bonuses to soldiers who can get others to sign up? Back in my day, the buddyfucking consisted of someone talking two friends into signing up so he could go in with a higher rank.
