Someone who thinks combat is fun is a lunatic you don't want in your foxhole, let alone your chain of command.
Combat is not fun. It's something that is sometimes unavoidable and a task to be carried out and finished as fast as possible. It is not FUN! Any real soldier knows this.
Closest thing to combat this chucklehead probably saw was being at a battalion command base. He was a Lt Col. during Desert Storm. That means the chances he was ever in combat as a platon or company leader are slim to nil. His idea of combat is that of a video game player. I'm sure his attitude would be different if he'd ever had field combat experience.
