"Being lectured by the president on fiscal responsibility is a little bit like Tony Soprano talking to me about law and order in this country." Kerry

"Well, to say that the borders are not as protected as they were prior to September the 11th shows he doesn't know the borders. They're much better protected today than they were when I was the governor of Texas." Bush

The Indumbant pResident, the Commander in Thief, unknowingly admitted that he did a shitty job on border protection when he was Governor.

Er, in what capacity does the Governor of Texas have control over US borders?

If anything, Bush shows that he doesn't know which borders he's supposed to be protecting ;)

Texas Rangers do border patrol as part of their job.

INFO HERE

The beginning paragraph slays me.

"UNITED STATES BORDER PATROL. In 1875 Congress started passing laws limiting immigration. By an Act of March 3, convicts and immoral women were denied entry. The immigration statute of August 8, 1882, forbade the admission of idiots, lunatics, convicts, and persons who might become a public charge."

Interesting. By right of birth, (rather than immigration) you ARE allowed to live here even IF you are a convict, immoral, an idiot, lunatic and a person who might become a public charge (hmmm...by today's welfare standards, that might just be anyone.)

BTW, snagged you for [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes m'dear.

Hey now ... when you metaquote you're supposed to give a link too. I don't want to have to sift through all of them just to stroke my own ego young lady! :-)

By act of the Constitution, Interstate and border enforcement are a federal power. Not a state responsiblity. One cannot force a state to pay for federal law enforcement tasks. See Printz vs US.

Tell that to the rangers who routinely do it.

The state may do the task if it' wishes to. It is not however required to enforce federal law at it's own cost. That is what the Printz ruling underscores.

Ah, well - a perfectly valid statement, as he clearly thinks that his skills at Border Protection are VERY high, when he was Governor, he could no longer protect the borders and the standard of protection lapsed. Evidently the US would be far better served, and he should agree, if he were no longer in politics and were back on border patrol ;)
