Kids are lazy these days. When I was a kid, a big snowstorm meant money in my pocket. I'd have my lil brother in tow with our shovels and be making MAD money shoveling out peoples sidewalks and around their cars.

Both my neighbor and I are out of commission due to our backs(*). The kids on the block would have made some decent change this afternoon. But instead, I am now looking at the vodka and wondering if that will amp up the effect of these painkillers.

It goes both ways, though... the parents may be saying "no, you can't shovel! there's killers/molesters/psychopaths out there!"

The girl scouts don't even let them sell door-to-door alone anymore.

it's a fucked up world.

Nah, this is still one of those areas where you know everyone on your block. And most likely the next block and then some.

I miss Platypus Man. It was the best show UPN had on that first season in '95.

Sometimes I think Good Eats was inspired a little bit by the show within the show "Cooking with the Platypus Man".

If we had neighbors where I grew up, I'd have done it for free. To shovel peoples's sidewalks involved my brother and I getting on the snowmobile and taking a ride into town. Then we'd go door to door to any house snowed in.

We were industrious lil bastards.

snowmobile!!!! yay!!!!

i was totally forbidden from riding on snowmobiles when i was a kid, because they're "too dangerous". about 5 years back i finally got to have a go driving one myself when i helped my dad with grooming the ski trails on a couple of 30+ yr old ones. it was *fun*.

anyways, yeah, it never occurred to me to try to get anyone to pay me to shovel their drives. i was a nice kid, but not a canny one.
