I freely admit to being paranoid(1). I freely admit that some of the things that I have gut feelings about turn out blatantly wrong. And I also freely admit to being truly thankful when I AM proven wrong.
An attack on Detroit tomorrow would be awfully convenient for BushCo and the Repugnicans. The American Sheeple would instantly fall back into the 9/12 mentality and forget all the scandals and screw-ups that Shrubbie and his gaggle of TerrorTubbies have been linked to over the last five years.
The fact that Detroit has one of the highest Muslim population per capita wouldn't be noticed.
I also know that I'm not the only one who's had this idea. Sadly, the majority seem to be of the tinfoil hat variety. That's one of the MANY depressing thing about this decade. The Art Bell audience has started sounding less and less like the nutjob wingnuts they are at heart.
(1) It's one of the many things I acquired while in the military. That's what happens when one spends as much time under Courts Martial proceedings as I did and seen as guilty until I was cleared (by the victim no less).

I think the problem is that if there was an attack on Detroit, one half of the country would blame Bush for not stopping it and one half would blame him presuming he instigated it.
Both would be wrong.
If you want to place blame then you have to identify who planned it, who funded it, and who did it. That is not the instant gratification process as laid out on CSI. We can either shift to vigilante justice - which doesn't leave a lot of room for identifying who did it before you pull the trigger - or we shift to an actual investigation and conviction process - which does not lend itself to immediate satisfaction and political photo shoots within the week.
At this point I think some things like immigration enforcement will likely go the vigilante route. It's blatantly obvious the government cannot and will not enforce immigration laws.
I worry that pursuit of terrorist cells could go that way soon as well. Because unlike TV it's not a big glamourous press conference event and people aren't getting their instant gratification at any level all the way up to the president.

Agreed to on all points.
Like I said, I'm lucky (or unlucky) enough to realize at least half the stuff that comes into my mind is due to severe paranoia.
