This sort of thing isn't doing him any favours - he was unpopular before he decided to visit, and the full "state visit" regalia (dusted off especially for him, not used for any visiting US president since 1917) hasn't helped much either.
Plus, of course, the major of London at the moment is Ken Livingstone. Who doesn't see eye-to-eye with Blair and didn't support the war - he's speaking at the protests, not the official reception, when Bush visits. Livingstone's also raised a few "interesting" points such as where the money for all this is coming from - he (understandably) doesn't want London residents to be footing the bill for the security operation in next year's taxes...
